"The Ecstatic Experience of Gospel Choir":There is a wave of passion spreading out through the Judeo-Christian world--the profound desire to know God directly; to have the ecstatic, transcendent personal experience of God. The most visible example of congregational ecstatic experience can found in Christian gospel churches, but the powerful ecstasy-inducing techniques used in those services have their origin in much older African "danced" spirit-possession practice, and are available for all to learn. The Africans are longtime masters of the use of rhythm and dance to reach ecstatic trance.
I have discovered that there are specific, teachable techniques that make the gospel style particularly effective in raising the energy of the congregation. In this workshop, we will learn the energetics of the gospel service including the concepts of praise and glory. We will explore the secrets of polyrhythm and drive, the major pentatonic scale, the power of praise and affirmation, the techniques of repetition and of call & response. We will examine the unique vocal style, the group state known as one accord, the physics of the vibratory body, harmonics, resonance, entrainment, and synchrony, the shamanic understanding of the organization and transmutation of the self, and more.
We will create a gospel-style choir on the spot, with opportunity for soloists as well.
